Adventure Details

Carribean Multisport   (Activity Level - Activity Level 3)

A visit to Old San Juan allows us to venture back to the time of pirates and colonial rule. In this spirit, we'll mix adventure with history throughout the week, immersing ourselves into the culture. There's no chance for boredom as we cover as much of the island as possible exploring canyons and caves, visiting telescopes and old forts, and seeing the hidden side of this Caribbean island.

DAY 1:

This is a travel day. Our group will convene in San Juan, Puerto Rico. As participants arrive, we'll head over to our hotel in the Carolina district, giving plenty of time to roam about the town and explore its beauty. A group dinner in the evening will allow us all to learn about each other and prepare for our week of adventure.

DAY 2:

After a continental breakfast which includes local fruits, we'll head out the old section of town. A visit to the impressive Fort Morro will leave us seeing pirates around every corner. After the fort, we'll head over to Old San Juan for lunch, visiting, and shopping. We'll add the day with some time on the beach, watching the sunset over the hills.

DAY 3:

First thing in the morning, we'll head out East on the island for a day of canyoneering. Our local guides will meet us for an amazing day of adventure in this warm water river. We'll zip down cables, rappel waterfalls, climb walls, and swim through this amazing location. In the afternoon, we'll be exhausted but amazed at what we've just accomplished. That evening, we'll stay at a house on the fringe of the rainforest.

DAY 4:

A more relaxing day, we'll head out after a big breakfast to visit the local rainforest - El Yunque. The "cloud forest" hosts an amazing diversity of life and it's easy to get lost among its beauty. We'll stick to the trails as we visit several ancient outposts that give us a chance to get above the treetops. In the afternoon, we'll back to our house and spend time down by the local river.

DAY 5:

Its time to leave El Yunque behind and head back West across the island. Today we'll visit the Arecibo radio telescope - the largest radio telescope in the world. You will probably recognize it from one of the many movies filmed here, including Contact. We'll spend the better part of the day hiking and visiting this jungle location, learning about radio observing and our spot in the universe before heading to our local accommodations.

DAY 6:

Back to the adventure world today as we go caving. This adrenaline-filled day will find us rappelling through the Earth's crust into an underground river. The formations we discover on the inside will leave us awed and breathless. After a full day of exploring, we'll emerge tired and excited. That evening, we'll head for a farewell dinner in San Juan.

DAY 7:

This is a travel day. Participants will be personally driven to the airport throughout the day. Those whose flights leave in the afternoon and evening will be given additional time to shop in Old San Juan and enjoy the beauty of this island for just a little while longer.
