One of our most popular destinations transports us deep within the jungles of Mexico. At this isolated jungle town, we will discover underwater caves, rivers for whitewater rafting, waterfalls for canyoneering, Mayan ruins, an entire hillside turned into a huge piece of art, incredible food, and intoxicating beauty. Throughout the week, we'll camp in palapas next to the river, falling asleep to the sounds of the jungle.
This is a travel day. Participants are encouraged to arrive in the morning to maximize our adventure time. Once in Tampico, we'll meet our local guides, and board our private vans to head into Valles. Valles will serve as our basecamp throughout the trip. Any extra time this afternoon will be spent exploring the local small town and getting used to our surroundings before a nighttime campfire.
Day 2:
We start our day with a riverside breakfast, filling our bellies for a day of adventure. All food is local and made to order. After breakfast, we dress for a day in the warm river water and prepare for a small boat whitewater raft trip down the Tampa River - a class II/III river. After a full day of rafting, it's back to our private camp for food and fun.
Day 3:
A fun-filled day of adventure awaits us today. We'll be canyoneering down the Minas Viejas waterfalls, eat lunch next to the river, cliff jump or trek next to the Micos waterfalls, and visit an ancient Mexican sauna to relax in the afternoon. Dinner back at our camp.
Day 4:
Put on your Dali glasses as we pay a visit to the surrealistic mountain art piece created by british ex-pat Edward James in the 1900's. After lunch at a local small town, we'll visit a 500-year-old church and some of the local coffee plantations. An evening visit to the Cave of the Swallows finishes our day.
Day 5:
Today is a group activity as we canoe up the river to visit the incredibly Tamul Waterfall. After enjoying the splendor of this waterfall, we'll have a chance to swim into a large water cave - an unforgettable experience! Dinner back at our hacienda.
Day 6:
Our options are presented to the group for this final day. You will decide together what adventure you want to experience. One of our favorite aspects of the Mayan Adventure is that no two trips are alike. We are constantly changing the adventures every time we run our program. There's just too much to do in Valles for one week!
Day 7:
This is a travel day. Participants will be driven back to Tampico after breakfast to catch plane flights home. Although our journey was only seven days, we expect the skills learned and memories found will last a lifetime.
Note on Itinerary:
This course is subject to change for numerous reasons beyond our control, including weather and climbing area conditions.
