AN IDEA BORN FROM THE MOST BASIC HUMAN NEED — THIRST
It's 1988. Bicycle enthusiast, Michael Eidson, is competing in the "Hotter'N Hell 100." And that's exactly what it is: a 100-mile road race in the grueling summer heat of Wichita Falls, Texas. Water is vital to surviving the race, and there are few places to refill a water bottle. Eidson, an emergency medical technician by trade, decides to fill an IV bag with water and slip it into a white tube sock. Yes, a tube sock. Then he stuffs the contraption into the back of his bike jersey, throws the thin hose over his shoulder and clamps it with a clothespin. Hands-free hydration is born. And Eidson is able to drink as he pedals...while the other racers laugh and fiddle with their water bottles.
OPERATION HYDRATION — THE ROAD TO SURVIVAL
Jeff Wemmer, a competitive cyclist who fell hard for CamelBak, was so impressed by the product that he started bringing packs to races to sell them. Talk about a fan. CamelBak eventually hired him, and in 1993, Jeff embarked on a road trip to keep the start-up running during very tough times.
Company lore has it that Jeff visited bike shops from Florida to California, pitching our renegade product from the back of his motorcycle. Each order Jeff faxed back to the factory literally breathed another day of life back into CamelBak.
THE REST IS HISTORY
It took courage, conviction and imagination to evolve from an IV bag in a tube sock sold by a motorcycle-driven sales force of one. Our core values remain the same and drive everything we do - from inventing the hydration category to becoming the world's leading maker of hydration solutions.
Oh yeah...about those bikers who laughed at Eidson? Well, chances are they've got a CamelBak strapped to their back or in their bike cage these days. Go figure...

Eric is one of the most progressive freeride mountain bikers on any terrain – from downhill and dirt jumps to urban riding such as handrails and wall rides!
Pick up a major mountain bike mag and you'll see Eric all over it. Or catch him in extreme videos and at all the top events. Eric loves riding Whistler and Highland Bike Park, but calls the Bearclaw Invitational "probably the funnest slopestyle." When he's not on his bike, you'll find Eric on snowmobiles, snowboards, motocross bikes, or just kicking back and camping. Raised in Louisville, he now lives near the Wasatch mountain range in Heber City, Utah.
How do you get from Kenya to the Sierra Nevada foothills, and along the way become an elite world-class runner? Here's a start: run 4 kilometers to school and back everyday in your native Kenya, and for good measure run the same distance home for lunch, too.
Today, Jane is part of the LUNA Chix Pro Team, and runs 5k's, 10k's, half-marathons, and full marathons. She is a remarkable competitor and generous person. With her prize money, she helps support her family back in Kenya.
Born in the Czech Republic, Katerina grew up hitched to a mountain slope - skiing in the winter and mountain biking in the summer. Her downhill work earned a scholarship at University of Reno. More practice and hard work got her to three Olympic Games, participating for her native country in both disciplines.
In 2008, her focus shifted exclusively to racing mountain bikes, choosing biffing and dodging death cookies as part of the Luna Chix Pro Team. Nash currently lives in a small town near Lake Tahoe. "I have everything I love here," says Nash, "For me, small towns mean big dreams."
Mountain Biking/Downhill Freeride
Kirt has raced and stood on the podium at countless World Cup and National downhill, dual slalom and 4x races across the globe. He is a Dual Slalom National Champion, and a real, live mountain biking legend. When mountain biking began to shift toward "freestyle" riding, Kirt took to the air, winning dirt jump events and filming cutting-edge videos. He reinvented himself as a Freerider and launched AllRide, then the AllRide Academy to help support youth riders. Shaped by his childhood in a tough, volatile environment surrounded by drugs and poverty, Kirt makes it his mission to encourage kids to look beyond their surroundings, set goals and work hard to achieve them. He lives in Bend, Oregon.

Stand Up Paddle
At only 15 years old, Slater has everything in place to become one of Hawaii's elite watermen. Unfazed and immensely talented, he is already competing with world-leading Stand Up Paddlers twice his age. Slater is the youngest person ever invited to prestigious Stand Up competitions like the Kuikaika Big Wave, Gerry Lopez Rainbow Sandal, as well as Duke's Ocean Fest where he's claimed three championship titles. Did we mention he's only 15 years old? Slater is an honor roll student, and a young, fierce ambassador for the future of surfing/SUP competition. Originally from Florida, he now calls Maui his home.
An intense fear of water doesn't typically lead to the life of a triathlete. Tyler, however, is not typical. On a dare, she entered her first triathlon and hasn't let up since. In fact, Tyler won back-to-back amateur Ironman World Championships in 2005 and 2006, breaking the course record both times. Tyler turned pro and is now a member of the Luna Chix Pro Team. At the end of her first year, she was named USAT's Rookie of the Year, and has since established herself as one of America's brightest stars in the sport. Tyler does her grueling training in hilly Marin County, north of the Golden Gate Bridge.
